WENATCHEE — The Community Foundation of North Central Washington has awarded over $1.2 million in scholarships to students across the region, marking a record year for the number of recipients.

The foundation distributed $1,282,982 to 277 students pursuing higher education, according to a statement released Friday. The scholarships come from more than 150 funds established by local individuals, families, and businesses.

"Without our volunteers, the significant impact we make on students' lives simply wouldn't be possible," said Julie Mott, Scholarship Specialist at the Community Foundation. "It's inspiring to see what can be accomplished when we come together as a community: funding future doctors, musicians, engineers, writers—the list goes on."

The foundation uses an online application system that matches students to scholarships based on donor-defined criteria, which may include academic performance, community service, or overcoming personal obstacles. Over 300 volunteers participated in reviewing applications and selecting recipients this year.

The next application cycle opens on January 1, with deadlines of March 1 and June 1. Students are encouraged to begin the process early, as it requires completing the FAFSA and obtaining letters of recommendation.

Established in 1986, the Community Foundation of North Central Washington manages $130 million in assets through over 600 individual funds. It has awarded more than $55 million in grants and scholarships to date.
