WENATCHEE — Youth and families are invited to take part in a National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the North Central Washington Gun Club in Wenatchee.
The free event, hosted by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and the Wenatchee Sportsman Association (WSA), runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families may register for either the morning session, from 10 a.m. to noon, or the afternoon session, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Youth participants, accompanied by an adult, will have the opportunity to learn hunting, fishing, and conservation skills through hands-on activities. Stations will include rod-and-reel casting, archery practice, 20-gauge shotgun shooting, and air rifle shooting. Educational displays and conservation partner booths will also be available.
Certified hunter education instructors, master hunters, and shooting range safety officers will be present to provide training and guidance. WDFW said the event emphasizes the importance of hunter safety while ensuring a safe environment for participants.
Pre-registration is required to guarantee materials for all attendees.
The celebration will also feature free hot dogs and chips, reusable drawstring safety gear bags for youth participants, and door prize drawings with items donated by local and national businesses.
WSA is seeking volunteers to help with the event. Those interested can sign up through the WDFW volunteer event list webpage at wdfw.wa.gov/get-involved/volunteer/event-list.
National Hunting and Fishing Day was created by Congress in 1971 and signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1972 to recognize the role hunters and anglers play in conservation.
