WENATCHEE — Wenatchee Valley College will launch its WVC Speaks Lecture Series with a presentation focused on local greenhouse gas emissions later this month.
Dr. Joan Qazi, a professor at Wenatchee Valley College, and Marlene Farrell of Sustainable NCW will present “What Our Emissions Tell Us” at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 in The Grove Recital Hall on the college’s Wenatchee campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The event is the first installment of the WVC Speaks Lecture Series, a monthly program highlighting faculty, staff and community expertise on topics relevant to North Central Washington.
According to the college, Qazi and Farrell will discuss where greenhouse gas emissions in Wenatchee and Chelan County originate and review findings from the first greenhouse gas inventory conducted for the city and county. The inventory was completed by Our Valley Our Future and Sustainable NCW and includes both local and imported emissions.
The presenters are also expected to outline community projects and college-related efforts that may help address emissions identified in the inventory. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.
Qazi serves as a geography professor and sustainability coordinator at Wenatchee Valley College and has participated in regional post-carbon economy efforts. Farrell is the executive director of Sustainable NCW.
