Write On The River announces 2026 writers competition winners

WENATCHEE — Write On The River has announced the winners of its 18th annual Writers Competition, recognizing six writers in fiction and nonfiction.

According to the organization, entries were read anonymously by a panel of 10 judges. Submissions could be on any topic and could be either the beginning of a longer work or a complete piece.

The six winners will share $1,200 in cash awards and are scheduled to read at Write On The River’s Four Minutes of Fame event on April 30.

In fiction, first place went to Alyssa Bones of Wenatchee for “Body Count.” Eric Stadelman of Walla Walla placed second for “The Blue Truck,” and Ann McCreary of Twisp placed third for “Me and Greta.” Write On The River identified McCreary as a second-time winner.

In nonfiction, first place went to MaxieJane Frazier of Riverside for “A Missing Peace.” Susan Gillan of Wenatchee placed second for “Dear Kevin,” and Clare Garrity of Wenatchee placed third for “Swedish Goodbye.” Write On The River identified Gillan as a third-time winner.

The organization said the winning work and additional information about the writers will be published on its website.
