Wenatchee’s new Junior City Council seeks student applications

Posted

WENATCHEE — The City of Wenatchee is soliciting applications from local high school students (grades 9-12) for the newly established Junior City Council. This program, created by the Wenatchee City Council along with local students Luisanna Esquivel and Alex Reeg of Wenatchee High School, aims to involve high school students in local governance, civic responsibility, and leadership development.

Participants will gain practical experience in municipal government, offering their viewpoints, contributing to community initiatives, and learning about policy-making. The Junior City Council will advise the Wenatchee City Council on youth-related aspects across all city functions, including but not limited to finance, public works, parks, recreation, cultural services, community development, information technology, public safety and even human resources.

A term on the Junior City Council will be a period of two academic years, and the monthly meetings will last an hour and a half to two hours and be held in City Hall’s council chambers.

Interested students must complete an application for consideration. Selections will be based on demonstrated leadership skills, community involvement, and an interest in civic affairs.

For more details about the Junior City Council, visit the city’s website at the Wenatchee Junior City Council page.
