WENATCHEE — One hundred fifty students from across the Wenatchee School District will bring Willy Wonka's chocolate factory to life this November in an all-district musical production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at Wenatchee High School.
The production, directed by Paul Atwood and Kelly Ginger-Atwood, marks another milestone in their collaborative leadership of the school's drama program, which dates back to 2011. The husband-and-wife directing team will bring Roald Dahl's classic story to the stage with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and book by David Greig.
"It has been a pleasure for me to finally put on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," said Director Paul Atwood. "I am amazed at our young talent in this valley. This will be a can't miss production! Mark my words!"
The production features junior Kade Deveraux in the role of Willy Wonka. Deveraux, who previously portrayed Squidward in the district's production of "The SpongeBob Musical," expressed enthusiasm for his current role.
"This experience has been wonderful so far creating Willy Wonka, this show is going to be a magical experience for anyone who comes to see it," said Deveraux.
The musical incorporates beloved songs from the 1971 film adaptation, including "Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination," alongside new material. Performances will run at the Wenatchee High School auditorium on November 14-16 and 21-23 at 7 p.m., with additional matinee shows on November 16 and 23 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are priced at $15 for students and $18 for adults, available through whspresents.com.
The production is being overseen by producer Marie Scanlon
