Editor’s Note: This event has been postponed due to forecasted low temperatures that could damage student instruments during the outdoor performances. The Wenatchee School District said a new date for the Loop Trail Arts Festival will be announced at a later time. (Wenatchee School District postpones Loop Trail Arts Festival)
WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee School District will bring student music and art onto the Apple Capital Loop Trail May 15 for a districtwide Arts Festival.
The free event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with performances, student artwork and live art-making at locations along the trail.
Attendees are encouraged to walk the trail and stop at four performance areas: the Linden Tree, 5th Street Picnic Shelter, Splash Pad and Apple Playground. Performances will include elementary and middle school choirs, orchestras, jazz ensembles, mariachi, folklorico, drumline, Wenatchee High School Band and Wenatchee High School Orchestra.
“This event is about more than a performance — it’s about taking our students’ talent out of the four walls of school and sharing it with the whole community,” said Kelsey Lodge, music teacher at Orchard Middle School and co-organizer of the event. “We want neighbors, families, and anyone who loves the arts to come out, enjoy a beautiful evening on the trail, and see firsthand how incredible our students are.”
The Linden Tree location will feature elementary choir at 5:30 p.m., middle school choir at 6 p.m. and Orchard Jazz Band at 7 p.m.
At the 5th Street Picnic Shelter, WHS Mariachi will perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by middle school orchestra at 6 p.m., middle school mariachi at 6:30 p.m. and WHS Orchestra at 7 p.m.
The Splash Pad location will include middle school band at 5:30 p.m., WHS Band at 6 p.m., Foothills Folklorico at 6:30 p.m. and Pioneer Jazz Band at 7 p.m.
At Apple Playground, Orchard Middle School Folklorico will perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by GA Band Drumline at 6:30 p.m. and Foothills Jazz Band at 7 p.m.
Student artwork will be displayed at all locations, and students will create art along the trail throughout the evening.
The district said the festival is supported in part by levy funding, which helps fund music and arts teachers and programming across Wenatchee schools.
Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The full event schedule and map are available at tinyurl.com/wsddistrictarts. More information is available at wenatcheeschools.org, by calling (509) 663-8161, or by emailing info@wenatcheeschools.org.
