Wenatchee School Board to consider bond resolution at June meetings

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee School Board is scheduled to review preliminary plans and a proposed bond amount this month as it moves toward a decision on a potential capital bond measure that could appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.

According to the Wenatchee School District, architects with Integrus Architecture will present the results of a five-month design engagement process during the board’s June 10 meeting. The presentation is expected to include preliminary conceptual floor plans for a modernized Wenatchee High School and a proposed bond amount based on estimates prepared by school construction cost estimators. Board members will have an opportunity to discuss the findings and ask questions.

District officials said the design process included input from students, staff, families and community members through advisory committees, public open houses, community events and an online feedback form.

The board is expected to consider formal action on June 23, its final meeting of the school year, on a resolution that would place the bond measure before voters in the November general election.

If approved by voters, the bond would fund renovations to portions of Wenatchee High School and replace some classrooms with new construction. The measure also would fund HVAC upgrades at Mission View Elementary, Newbery Elementary, Sunnyslope Elementary, Lewis & Clark Elementary, Foothills Middle School, Pioneer Middle School and Orchard Middle School. District officials said the upgrades are intended to improve heating, cooling and wildfire smoke filtration.

The district said the proposal follows nearly three years of study and evaluation by the school board.
