WENATCHEE — With much of the recent attention focused on the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center’s upcoming expansion, new art showcases and temporary gallery space downtown, it might be easy to overlook one of the museum’s longest-running roles in the community: hands-on learning programs for local kids.
That mission continues this year as the museum opens enrollment for its upcoming Spring Break Camp and Super Summer Adventure Camps, a series of STEAM-based programs designed to introduce children to science, technology, engineering, art and math through creative, hands-on activities.
Spring Break Camps will run April 6–9 and include sessions such as The Craft Lab for younger campers and Introduction to Robotics for older students. The programs are designed for children ages 6–11, with robotics-focused classes offered for ages 10–11.
Museum officials say the camps are structured to combine creativity with problem-solving, encouraging students to experiment with new ideas while working together on projects.
From building robots and experimenting with art techniques to exploring imaginative themes like time travel or culinary science, the programs aim to spark curiosity while introducing students to STEAM concepts in an interactive setting.
The museum’s larger Super Summer Adventure Camps series begins July 13 and runs for four weeks. Camps take place Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature different themes each week.
Activities range from culinary creativity during The Great No-Bake Off, to historical exploration in History Hunters: Ancient Cultures, to hands-on experiments in Science Lab Explorers. Additional robotics sessions and a collaborative “Survivor-ish” Challenge Week will focus on teamwork and problem-solving through games and challenges.
The Great No-Bake Off — ages 6–10 — July 13–16
History Hunters: Ancient Cultures — ages 6–10 — July 20–23
Science Lab Explorers — ages 6–10 — July 27–30
Introduction to Robotics — ages 10–11 — July 27–30
Survivor-ish Challenge Week — ages 6–10 — Aug. 3–6
Advanced Robotics — ages 10–11 — Aug. 3–6
A parent of a previous camper praised the program’s variety of activities.
“I was so pleasantly surprised by all of the activities,” the parent said. “I had no idea my kids would get all of that. This was a really great camp.”
For children ages 6–10, camps cost $175 for museum members and $225 for non-members. Robotics camps for ages 10–11 are $225 for members and $275 for non-members. Parents may enroll children for individual weeks or the full four-week summer series.
Registration is required due to limited space.
The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center, a nonprofit supported by the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, offers year-round educational programming aimed at connecting residents with the region’s history, arts and sciences.
