LEAVENWORTH — Two significant collisions occurred in the Upper Valley on Sunday, Sept. 20, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Around 2 p.m., a hit-and-run collision occurred about three miles west of Cashmere, resulting in one injury. According to WSP, a vehicle was traveling eastbound near milepost 108 on U.S. Highway 2 when it made an improper lane change and collided with a motorcycle. The motorcycle came to rest in a westbound lane, where it was struck by a BMW X5. The first vehicle continued eastbound from the scene.
The motorcyclist, 62-year-old Christopher Miller of Cashmere, was injured but was not transported for further medical attention. Both the motorcycle and BMW sustained reportable damage.
Shortly after 3 p.m., another collision occurred on State Route 207 about 18 miles north of Leavenworth. A 2016 Polaris Ranger and a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe were traveling south near milepost 4 when the Tahoe attempted to pass the Polaris on the left in the oncoming lane. The Polaris attempted to turn left onto a side road and collided with the Tahoe.
The Polaris driver, 62-year-old Tommy Schmidt of Lake Stevens, was injured and transported to Cascade Medical Center. WSP said charges against Schmidt are pending. His passenger, 55-year-old Christine Schmidt of Lake Stevens, and the Tahoe driver, 47-year-old Kyle Green of Ajo, Arizona, were not injured.
Both vehicles sustained reportable damage. WSP said drugs or alcohol were not involved and that the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
