Third Job Theater brings ‘slasher’ twist to Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’

LEAVENWORTH — Third Job Theater will bring Shakespeare in the Park to Icicle Creek Center for the Arts (ICCA) on Aug. 28-29, putting a “slasher film” twist on William Shakespeare’s “Tragedy of Macbeth.”

The regionally-based company Third Job Theater, which aims to provide opportunities for local performers, directors and writers, describes the performance as “a supernatural thriller featuring a grisly murder, a sinister soup, and a vow of revenge.”

“We put a ‘slasher film’ twist on this classic,” said JJ Hernandez, who will be playing Macbeth. “So you can look forward to tropes like: splitting up to cover more ground, ‘this closet seems like a safe place to make out,’ and someone leaving to get help at the beginning of trouble, but not making it back in time to save anyone.”

Third Job Theater will present “The Tragedy of Macbeth” on ICCA’s Meadow Stage at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and 29, with seating open at 7 p.m. The show is for all ages. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged, and non-alcoholic beverages and food are welcome. The venue will have beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Tickets and information can be found at icicle.org.
