Posted

LEAVENWORTH – Continuous firefighting efforts and favorable weather conditions have kept the Second Creek Fire’s growth minimal.

As of 4 p.m. on May 29, the fire was estimated 75 acres in size with 20 percent containment, according to an update from Washington State Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Ryan Rodruck. Fire conditions behaved as predicted over Wednesday night, with some moderate fire activity along the south flank and from interior fuels. Thursday saw moderate rainfall and lower temperatures.

The Second Creek Fire now has approximately 150 personnel assigned. Crews continued to improve lines on Thursday afternoon, with air personnel utilized as needed. According to Rodruck, crews will engage in mop-up activity around the northern flank over the next operational period, and continue to construct and improve control lines around the southern perimeter.

Evacuation Level 1  (Be Ready) is still in effect for residences and structures surrounding Second Creek Road, extending from the junction of Merry Canyon Road, northeast to the junction of 7804 Road. Evacuation levels, updates and information are available through Chelan County Emergency Management.

The fire began along Second Creek Road up Merry Canyon, located approximately eight miles north of Leavenworth. The fire was reported mid-day on Memorial Day, and was human-caused. Zero structures have been damaged thus far.
