Roy Leon McCulley

Posted

Roy McCulley – 1931 – 2026.

It’s been said that few people die at 100 years old or more. Roy almost made it, passing at 95. Born in the family home of Fred and Fern McCulley, in Okanogan, towards the end of the Great Depression, Roy stayed near his roots. He graduated from Okanogan High School in 1949, served in the Army National Guard, and worked construction and surveying for the county. He earned a BA degree in education from Eastern Washington College of Education. But teaching was not in his future. He was called to do field surveying for a dam in Idaho which led to his working on many of the big dams on the Columbia, including Grand Coulee. But with that era coming to an end, Roy moved to Chelan and began orcharding becoming 1990 “Grower of the Year” at Trout. He also discovered snowmobiling. He married Joy Province in 1994 and lived at First Creek Orchards.

Roy grew up with three brothers, Winston (Boots), Dale (Doris) and Fred (Faye). He leaves behind wife, Joy, children Kelly Rolen (Roger), Mitch Evans (Barb), Mark Evans, Nicole Province (Shawn Raines), Kemberly Province and Brittanie Province, and enough grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews to make a house full and happy.

A remembrance service will be held at the Chelan High School Performing Arts Center, September 5th at 1:00 pm. Military honors follow at Fraternal Cemetery about 2:30 pm and a “good time,” gathering at Chelan’s Senior. Center about 3:00 pm.’ish.
