EAST WENATCHEE — One person was killed and another injured in a fiery vehicle crash late Friday, Oct. 16, in East Wenatchee, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched at approximately 11:48 p.m. to a reported injury collision near Fourth Street Southeast and South Van Well Avenue after callers reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a vehicle on fire.

RiverCom Dispatch received additional reports that an injured person was outside the vehicle and another person might be trapped inside.

Responding emergency personnel found a passenger vehicle off the roadway and fully engulfed in flames.

A 27-year-old Wenatchee man was found injured at the scene and transported by Ballard Ambulance to a local hospital with injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, emergency personnel confirmed a second person was dead inside the vehicle. The body was removed and transferred to the Douglas County Coroner's Office for identification.

Preliminary observations at the scene indicated alcohol and excessive speed were likely contributing factors in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

The identity of the deceased person was not released in the sheriff's office's Oct. 17 announcement.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, East Wenatchee Police Department, Wenatchee Valley Fire, Ballard Ambulance and RiverCom Dispatch responded to the incident.
