CHELAN – The Chelan County Sheriff's Office issued Level 1 and Level 2 evacuation notices Thursday afternoon in response to the new Stormy Mountain Fire near Lake Chelan.
A Level 2 evacuation notice, meaning residents should be prepared to leave, was issued for the area at 2050 First Creek Road and above. A Level 1 fire advisory was issued for 2050 First Creek Road and below.
The notices were issued through the county's Everbridge emergency alert system. Residents in the affected areas were advised to monitor local radio stations and Chelan County Emergency Management for updates.
The Stormy Mountain Fire was estimated at 5 acres Thursday afternoon and was burning in grass and shrubs east of Forest Road 8500, approximately a half-mile south of First Creek Road.
Units were on scene of the vegetation fire by about 2:36 p.m. Aug. 20, according to Incident Command. The fire was initially estimated at about 5 acres before an updated estimate placed it at 25 acres.
Air Attack later revised the fire's size to 5 acres at about 2:53 p.m. A Type 1 helicopter was on scene assisting firefighting efforts.
No information was immediately available about containment, structures threatened or the cause of the fire.
