NCW Libraries to host free virtual poetry and nature program April 23

WENATCHEE – NCW Libraries will host a free virtual program April 23 featuring former Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna.

The program, titled “Great Expectations, A Poetry Workshop,” is scheduled for Thursday, April 23. According to NCW Libraries, the event will include a poetry reading and discussion focused on trees, plants and their role in people’s lives.

Organizers said the program will examine perspectives on nature, including ideas of interconnectedness, beauty and identity.

Participants may register through the online calendar at NCW Libraries’ website to receive a Zoom link.

Castro Luna served as Washington State Poet Laureate from 2018 to 2021 and was Seattle’s first civic poet. She is the author of four poetry collections, including “Cipota Under the Moon” and “Killing Marías,” both shortlisted for the Washington State Book Award.

The event is part of the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau, which includes speakers from fields such as higher education, journalism and the arts.
