NCW Libraries launches cyber safety series for families

Posted

WENATCHEE — NCW Libraries is launching a new program aimed at helping families navigate the digital world with more confidence, offering a mix of in-person and virtual sessions this spring.

The “Cyber Safety for Families” series brings kids and adults together for interactive presentations focused on practical online safety skills, from recognizing scams and cyberbullying to understanding digital footprints and emotional well-being.

With social media, gaming, and online platforms playing a central role in daily life, the program is designed to move beyond warnings and into conversation, helping families build healthy habits and communicate openly about their online experiences.

“A big part of digital literacy is helping families feel confident, not overwhelmed, by technology," said Ash Kunz, Digital Literacy and Learning Manager at NCW Libraries. "The digital world is where kids learn, connect, and grow, and this series creates a space where they and their adults can do that together — asking questions, building skills, and developing the confidence to stay safe. When families have the right tools and conversations, they're better prepared to handle whatever comes their way online."

The sessions will be led by Elizabeth Rossiter, IT Director and Cybersecurity Officer for the City of Wenatchee, who brings experience in protecting public systems and data, along with a focus on practical, family-centered guidance.

Two virtual sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with registration required through the NCW Libraries online calendar at https://www.ncwlibraries.org/cyber-safety-for-families/.

Additional in-person sessions will be held at local branches across the region:

  • Saturday, May 16, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Wenatchee Public Library
  • Wednesday, May 20, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Moses Lake Public Library
  • Friday, May 29, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Omak Public Library

Organizers encourage families to attend and to share the opportunity with others who may benefit from learning more about online safety. More information is available at https://www.ncwlibraries.org or by contacting a local NCW Libraries branch.
