Manson Community Council meets with Colville Tribes leadership

Posted

MANSON — The Manson Community Council traveled to Nespelem this month for a goodwill meeting with the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation’s Tribal Government Committee, exchanging greetings as neighbors and community leaders.

The meeting focused on issues of mutual concern, including traffic, growth, tourism, long-term planning, and the possibility of Manson pursuing incorporation through a formal feasibility study. Both sides also raised the pressing need for affordable housing and how to balance growth with preserving Manson’s small-town character.

As part of the exchange, the Council presented fresh apple cider from Manson Growers Cider Press. In turn, Tribal leaders shared a history of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and offered mementos symbolizing their heritage and community.

Representing the Manson Community Council were Chair Mike Kirk, along with Dom Amor, Rene Commons, Gerry Ustanik, and Jeff Conwell. Attending from the Colville Tribal Government Committee were Karen Conden, Norma Sanchez, Kyle Etchison, and Meghan Francis.

Council members said they were honored by the invitation and committed to building stronger ties with the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Looking ahead, the Council plans to ensure Tribal leaders are included in future discussions that affect both communities.
