Leon Keith McDonald, known to all as Keith, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on June 4, 1930, in Kamas, Utah, Keith was the son of Floyd and Helen McDonald.

Keith grew up in Chelan, Washington, and graduated from Chelan High School—a community and landscape that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Before entering the military, Keith worked in the copper mine at Holden Village, Washington—an early chapter in a lifetime of skilled, hands-on work. He later served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Taussig during the Korean War.

After his military service, Keith returned to Chelan and built an apple orchard from the ground up—an early reflection of his dedication, ingenuity, and deep connection to the land. He went on to have a long and accomplished career as a master mechanic, working on road construction projects throughout Washington and Alaska, as well as contributing to major hydroelectric infrastructure at the Grand Coulee Dam and other dams along the Columbia River.

In retirement, Keith returned once again to the Chelan Valley. He purchased a 10-acre property, which he personally developed and subdivided into six separate lots—another example of his self-reliance and vision.

Keith is survived by his daughter, Heidi Kady (Ken) of Spanaway, Washington, and his son, Scott McDonald (Lorraine) of Moorpark, California. He was preceded in death by his daughter Monica, his sister Marsha, and his grandson David Kady.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, at 11:00 AM at Riverview Cemetery, located in Chelan, Washington.

Keith will be remembered for his strength, independence, and enduring work ethic—a legacy built on a life of service, craftsmanship, and deep roots in the Chelan Valley. He will be greatly missed.

Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel of Chelan.  Please leave any thoughts and memories for the family at www.prechtrose.com.
