LEAVENWORTH — Rotary Club’s Great Bavarian Duck Race will launch thousands of rubber ducks on the Wenatchee River on Sept. 12, with cash prizes for the first three ducks over the finish line.

The duck race is an annual fundraising event put together by the Rotary Club, with proceeds supporting the local community and beyond. This includes supporting a leadership club and scholarships at Cascade High School, a student exchange program, Cascade Medical Foundation, literacy projects, Upper Valley MEND, shelter boxes, benches at Rattlesnake Hill and more.

Duck "adoption" is still underway. Everyone who adopts a duck, whether online, in the mail, at an adoption booth or in a sponsoring business is entered into a database that stores all of the information and automatically assigns numbers to the ducks. Duck adoption prices range from $10 per duck, $45 for five ducks and $100 for twelve ducks. The club also has sponsorship packages available.

The Great Bavarian Duck Race will start at 2:30 p.m. at Blackbird Island Bridge in downtown Leavenworth at 2:30 p.m. While there are cash prizes for the top three finishers, the event has reserved a prize for last place.
