Hovercraft and “oobleck” highlight Pinnacles Prep summer science camp

WENATCHEE — A summer science camp at Pinnacles Prep is inviting middle school students to build hovercraft, walk on oobleck and test the limits of hands-on learning.

The school’s 2026 “Test & Tinker” camp is designed for rising 5th through 9th grade students, offering a series of interactive STEM activities focused on experimentation, problem-solving and collaboration.

Participants will have the chance to construct and ride their own hovercraft, create safe, controlled chemical reactions and explore the unusual properties of non-Newtonian fluids, including oobleck, a simple starch-and-water mixture that behaves like both a liquid and a solid.

Organizers say the program is built around the idea that students learn best by doing, with activities designed to spark curiosity while introducing real-world science concepts in an accessible way.

“We’re thrilled to offer a camp that combines creativity, experimentation, and real-world science concepts,” said camp director Nikolai Kostka. “Test & Tinker is all about giving students the chance to learn by doing, and to have a great time while they do it.”

The camp will be held at Pinnacles Prep, 504 S. Chelan Ave., with three sessions scheduled for June 15–20, June 23–27 and June 30 through July 3. Each session runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The cost is $125 per five-day session. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
