Fresh Meals and Deals brings homemade comfort to Manson

MANSON — A new restaurant on Hale Street is offering more than just a good meal—it’s offering a family-friendly space with a focus on freshness, affordability, and community.

Fresh Meals and Deals, which opened in May, is owned and operated by Chad and Tyese Woodley, a husband-and-wife team raising their blended family of seven kids right here in the valley. Originally intended as a healthy meal prep business, the idea quickly evolved into something bigger.

“When I first started, it was just going to be meal prepping,” said Tyese, who now runs the kitchen alongside her husband. “But then my husband and my kids got excited, and we just kind of created a restaurant together as a family.”

The restaurant now serves breakfast and lunch with a focus on whole, homemade foods. The menu includes items like breakfast tacos with house-made corn tortillas, scratch-made bread and jam, and other customizable dishes—all made to order without seed oils or overly processed ingredients.

“The philosophy behind Fresh Meals and Deals is to make everything homemade and keep everything as fresh as we can,” said Tyese, whose passion for cooking is both professional and personal. After developing food allergies herself, she began researching ways to make meals healthier by avoiding highly processed oils and ingredients. “A lot of restaurants are moving into that kind of cooking now—more fresh, more homemade.”

Tyese’s love for food dates back to her early 20s, when she worked as a pizza cook and prep cook at Lanza’s, a fine dining Italian restaurant in Port Townsend. There, she learned both the craft of cooking and the basics of running a kitchen. Later, she became known in her community for preparing meals for sports events, fundraisers, and family gatherings. Starting her own restaurant has been a longtime dream.

“I’ve always wanted to own a restaurant,” she said. “This is something I’ve had in mind since my late 20s.”

Fresh Meals and Deals is very much a family-run operation. Chad, a carpenter by trade, is now the primary breakfast cook. Tyese handles lunch, baking, and meal prep, and their kids help with serving. Even their children’s friends have joined in, turning the dining room into a lively and welcoming space.

“Working with my family and seeing my kids blossom has been really rewarding,” Tyese said. “My husband has never worked in a restaurant or cooked ever, but he’s really shining bright in that position.”

In addition to making nearly everything from scratch, the Woodleys source as many ingredients as possible from local farms and neighbors. “Right now, all my fruit is coming from little farms in Manson,” Tyese said. “Customers even bring me fresh fruit. It’s awesome.”

One of the guiding principles behind Fresh Meals and Deals is to keep prices accessible—especially for local residents.

“Our pricing is very affordable,” Tyese said. “People think I’m giving food away sometimes, but we’re just trying to make sure locals have a place that isn’t geared toward tourists. We want to serve the community we live in.”

For now, the restaurant is alcohol-free, but the couple hopes to expand their offerings next year. “We’ll probably move into serving alcohol next spring,” Tyese noted.

Of course, launching a restaurant comes with its challenges. The kitchen is small, with only one cook on the line, which can slow down service at peak hours. Without a commercial dishwasher, all plates and utensils are washed by hand. Still, the Woodleys are focused on maintaining quality while gradually improving efficiency.

Despite the learning curve, Tyese says the experience has been overwhelmingly positive—especially thanks to the community support.

“I already have regulars who come in every week just to say hi and have some breakfast,” she said. “That’s kind of the vibe we want—you come in, and it feels like home, your home away from home. We want to be a place where you feel like you’re part of the family.”

With plans to grow, strong ties to the community, and a clear commitment to wholesome food, Fresh Meals and Deals is off to a promising start.
