Confluence Health receives prestigious awards for heart attack care

Posted

WENATCHEE — Confluence Health Hospital Central Campus has been recognized by the American Heart Association with two prestigious awards: the “Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold” recognition, and the “Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll” award.

The NSTEMI Gold recognition highlights Confluence Health's dedication to providing prompt, research-driven care for non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) heart attacks. NSTEMI, a common form of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) resulting from a partial coronary artery blockage, accounts for approximately 70% of the over 1 million annual ACS hospitalizations in the U.S.

Dr. Abhinav Goyal, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Coronary Artery Disease System of Care Advisory Group, emphasized the importance of adhering to the Association's guidelines for NSTEMI care. “These guidelines include specific recommendations for in-hospital care and cardiac rehabilitation post-discharge,” he said.

The NSTEMI award acknowledges hospitals that consistently treat patients according to the most current, evidence-based NSTEMI care guidelines established by the American Heart Association.

Dr. Liam Morris, physician medical director for the cath lab at Confluence Health, said, "Confluence Health is dedicated to improving the quality of heart attack care and the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program helps us achieve that goal. The program puts proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis so patients have the best possible chance of survival.”

Additionally, Confluence Health Hospital Central Campus received the Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award. This recognition signifies the hospital's commitment to ensuring that patients hospitalized for a heart attack who also have Type 2 diabetes receive the most current, evidence-based care.

Get With The Guidelines® is a hospital-based quality improvement program from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Since 2001, it has impacted over 14 million patients by providing hospitals with the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines, aiming to save lives and accelerate recovery.
