Wenatchee Museum campaign enters final push to unlock $2.5 million match

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center is entering the final phase of its “Branch Out” capital campaign, with $700,000 remaining to secure a full $2.5 million matching gift from philanthropist Dean Weidner.

The campaign reached a major milestone as the historic museum buildings closed in preparation for construction, marking the next step in a planned transformation that aims to expand exhibits, improve accessibility and create more welcoming spaces for the community.

“This is an exciting and important transition point,” said Executive Director Marriah Thornock. “We’ve reached a stage where the community’s support can directly determine whether we maximize this extraordinary opportunity.”

Before his passing, Weidner established the $2.5 million dollar-for-dollar match to support the project. In recognition of his contribution, the match has been extended through June 30, 2026, giving the community a limited opportunity to double the impact of new campaign commitments.

“Every gift right now helps ensure we don’t leave matching dollars on the table,” said Campaign Co-Chair Eliot Scull. “This is a rare opportunity to make every contribution go twice as far.”

The museum is encouraging community members, businesses and supporters to participate through one-time donations or multi-year pledges. All commitments qualify for the match, even if they are fulfilled over time.

Museum leaders said the completed project will have impacts beyond the museum campus by creating a more accessible downtown destination, expanding educational and family engagement opportunities, strengthening connections to Centennial Park and supporting tourism and regional economic vitality.

“This has always been about more than a building,” said Board Chair Felicity Saberhagen. “It’s about who we are as a community—and how we invest in our shared future.”

The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center brings together history, arts, science and community programming, serving as a cultural resource and gathering place for the region.
