WENATCHEE — Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs has recognized Chelan County Elections Director Stephanie Wilder for getting the county's elections system back online after a malware attack this summer.

Hobbs presented Wilder with a "Certificate of Appreciation in Honorable Recognition of Outstanding Leadership and Service" on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Chelan County Auditor's Office.

After the malware incident shut down county operations, Wilder had the county's VoteWA system running again within 48 hours, according to the county. Hobbs credited her with "decisive action" and "distinguished service" in safeguarding the security and continuity of Washington elections.

Wilder has worked for Chelan County for more than 22 years.

The recognition comes as ballots for the Nov. 3 general election go out to Chelan County voters this week. Election information is at co.chelan.wa.us/elections.
