Methow Valley Ranger District plans 210-acre prescribed burn near Winthrop

Posted

WINTHROP — The Methow Valley Ranger District plans to conduct a 210-acre prescribed burn northwest of Winthrop on Thursday, Oct. 15, and Friday, Oct. 16.

The burn is planned for the Upper Rendezvous Block 1 unit. Crews attempted to burn the area last week but postponed operations because conditions were unsuitable.

Smoke from the burn is expected to be visible throughout Methow Valley communities. Forest Service officials are coordinating with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and National Weather Service to minimize smoke impacts.

Officials said conditions appear favorable for the burn, with residual smoke expected to clear over the weekend.

The district is also monitoring conditions for a potential understory burn in the Libby Creek drainage south of Carlton next week.

Additional information and prescribed burn updates are available on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest website.
