CHELAN — Students across the Lake Chelan School District will head back to classrooms Sept. 1, opening a new school year with district officials emphasizing learning, student growth and safety as families settle back into the school-year routine.
The first day will bring most district students back to school, while preschool and kindergarten students will begin Sept. 8.
District staff have spent the days leading up to the start of classes preparing for students’ return, with the district again centering the year around its “ABCs” — achieve, believe and contribute.
“This year will be filled with abundant opportunities for our students to experience growth and to achieve, believe, and contribute, the ABCs of our Lake Chelan School District,” the district said in a message from Superintendent Brad Wilson announcing the start of school.
The district said staff members have been preparing for the new year and are looking forward to having students back in classrooms and engaged in learning activities.
Families who have not yet registered their children can still do so. Lake Chelan School District is accepting students at all grade levels, including preschool.
The district is also expanding availability at Chelan Digital Academy, with additional openings this year for students in grades 9-12. Families with questions about registration or the start of school can contact the district at 509-682-3515.
The return of students also means the return of school buses, busy crosswalks and increased traffic around district buildings. School officials are asking motorists throughout the community to pay particular attention as students begin traveling to and from school each day.
Drivers are asked to slow down in school zones, watch for students using crosswalks and stop for school buses when their stop signs are extended.
“Thank you to our community for working together to ensure that all students start the year safely and confidently,” the district said. “We are proud to partner with families and the broader Chelan community to create a safe and inspiring environment for every student.”
Lake Chelan School District, established in 1892, serves nearly 1,300 students. According to data cited by the district from the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, 97% of district students graduate within four years and more than 78% of high school students are enrolled in no-cost, college-level coursework.
The district’s offices are located at 309 E. Johnson Ave. in Chelan.
