Knights Fishing Derby returns to Wenatchee Valley College May 8

WENATCHEE — A long-running Wenatchee Valley College tradition will return to campus May 8, as the Knights Fishing Derby comes back for the first time in more than six years.

Hosted by the WVC Alumni Network, the free event will run from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at 1300 Fifth St. and is open to the public.

Organizers say the event is designed to reconnect students, alumni and the broader community with the WVC campus through a relaxed, family-friendly evening centered on fishing, food and outdoor activities.

“The people spoke, and we listened,” said WVC Foundation Executive Director Clint Strand. “We are so thrilled to bring back the Fishing Derby for our community. It’s a great opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and community members to get together, enjoy each other on this beautiful campus, and have a day filled to the gills with fun.”

At the center of the event is a temporary fishing setup, where participants can cast a line into a fountain stocked with 350 rainbow trout. A limited number of fishing poles will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and a cleaning station will be set up for those who want to prepare their catch on site.

The event will also feature food from Todo Rico, a beer garden, lawn games and additional activities throughout the evening.

Attendees who RSVP in advance at https://bit.ly/m/KFD will be entered into a drawing for Slidewaters tickets valued at $152, organizers said.

The derby is presented by Microsoft, and net proceeds will support the WVC Foundation’s mission to expand access to education and invest in student success.

Organizers say they hope the event’s return will help reestablish a tradition that brings people together on campus in a way that is both informal and community-focused.
